Cut by Patricia McCormick
While confined to a mental hospital, thirteen-year-old Callie slowly comes to understand some of the reasons behind her self-mutilation, and gradually starts to get better. During her treatment, she talks to us (the readers), but not to anyone else.
“The place is called a residential treatment facility. It is not called a loony bin,” states Callie, the narrator, with characteristic grit. Finally, the reason behind Callie’s self-destructive cutting comes to light and Callie begins the healing process.
A very engaging read.
